Sufficient economy

Starting in 1974, King Bhumibol Adulyadej developed his philosophy of Sufficiency Economy — rooted in moderation, self-reliance, and balance. He encouraged farmers to work with the land, building their own water sources and reducing dependence on outside resources. This is where his ideas closely align with permaculture: sustainable systems built from the ground up, at the family and community level.

Central to his vision was the "New Theory," a practical farming model dividing land between water, crops, and living space — mirroring permaculture's focus on integrated, self-sufficient design. That same spirit of working with nature instead of against it continues to guide how we grow and live here at Gaarawé Village.
